Noted filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming biography of legendary actress Sridevi. Priyanka Chopra announced the biography, titled The Empress and authored by Dheeraj Kumar, on the late actress birth anniversary. Ram Gopal Varma revealed that he is contributing a chapter to this much-anticipated book about the late Bollywood diva.
Writing A Chapter For The Empress
In an interview with Variety India, Ram Gopal Varma confirmed his participation in the book project. He stated that he believes his contribution will turn out to be the best piece written in the entire biography. True to his unfiltered persona, he quickly added a humorous caveat, remarking that every other contributor to the book was probably told the exact same thing by the creators.
The Blunt Remark About Dead People
When the conversation turned toward whether the director contemplates Sridevi or watches her films on occasions like her birth anniversary, he offered a rather unorthodox response. He stated plainly that he does not think about dead people at all. According to him, once someone departs from this physical world, they exit his life entirely. He noted that focusing on his own life is a better use of his time than dwelling on the deceased, adding that he is currently occupied with shooting his upcoming movie Police Company.
Weighing In On The Biography Title
The director also expressed his perspective regarding the title chosen for the book. He admitted that he was initially unaware that the biography was named The Empress. While he did not strongly oppose the choice, he maintained that the title Screen Queen would have been far more appropriate for her. He reasoned that she was the absolute first female superstar who paved the way for everyone else who followed.
Praising The Unmatched Acting Genius
Despite his candid and controversial remarks about not dwelling on the dead, Ram Gopal Varma did not hold back in praising Sridevi exceptional cinematic talent. He reflected that even years after her passing, he still cannot comprehend how she managed to pull off certain performances on screen. Pointing out her iconic Charlie Chaplin sequence in Mr. India, he observed that the art behind such acting remains almost impossible to decode. He concluded by affirming that among all the artists he has collaborated with throughout his career, Sridevi stood out as the absolute best.
