South Indian cinema star Sai Pallavi is currently generating immense buzz for her upcoming project Ramayan. In this much-anticipated film, she will be seen essaying the role of Goddess Sita, a casting choice that has sparked widespread discussions. The movie is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram and Yash playing the role of Ravhan. However, before signing onto this epic, the celebrated actress turned down several major regional films that eventually hit the big screen with other prominent actors.
Rejecting Major Hits Like Dear Comrade and Leo
Among the notable films declined by Sai Pallavi is the 2019 release Dear Comrade. The romantic action-drama featured Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, revolving around themes of love, student politics, and intense drama. Reports indicate that Sai Pallavi was the original choice to portray the character of Lilly, but she opted out of the project. Similarly, she was approached for Thalapathy Vijay's action thriller Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and released in 2023. Featuring an ensemble cast including Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Sarja, the film emerged as a massive box office hit. The role was initially offered to Sai Pallavi before ultimately being played by Trisha Krishnan.
The Pushpa and Valimai Rejections
Allu Arjun's blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise created history at the box office following its 2021 release, with its dialogues and lead performances leaving an indelible mark on popular culture. While Rashmika Mandanna immortalized the character of Srivalli, initial discussions for the role also considered Sai Pallavi, who chose to turn it down. Furthermore, Ajith Kumar's action thriller Valimai, released in theaters in 2022, featured the star as a police officer battling a dangerous criminal syndicate alongside Huma Qureshi. According to media reports, Sai Pallavi was considered for a significant role in the film, but she reportedly felt that the character did not offer enough scope to showcase her acting prowess, leading her to decline the offer.
Passing on Varisu and Embracing Ramayan
The 2023 family action drama Varisu, starring Thalapathy Vijay and directed by Vamshi Paidipally, focused on themes of family values, business, and interpersonal relationships. Rashmika Mandanna played the role of Divya in the film, which went on to become a blockbuster hit. Reports suggest that Sai Pallavi was approached for this role initially as well, though the exact reasons for her refusal remain unconfirmed. Having moved past these missed opportunities, she is now gearing up to appear in Nitesh Tiwari's grand adaptation of Ramayan. Although her casting initially drew mixed reactions and online trolling, industry chatter now suggests that no one else could have portrayed Goddess Sita with the grace and innocence she brings to the table. Sharing screen space with major stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, her upcoming performance remains one of the most eagerly awaited cinematic events in Indian film history.
