The glamorous world of Bollywood has often been filled with stories of creative differences and high-profile clashes among stars. Salman Khan has also found himself at odds with a few industry figures over the course of his career, including a notable fallout with veteran director Subhash Ghai that escalated to a physical altercation. Despite a history of serious friction, the duo eventually set aside their differences to collaborate on the film Yuvraaj. The acclaimed filmmaker has now revisited that infamous dispute, shedding light on what really happened behind closed doors.
How Yuvraaj Came to Be
Recalling the events that led to their patch-up and eventual collaboration, the veteran director shared how the project started. He revealed in an interview that Salman Khan's brother approached him and asked why he never made a movie with the actor. When the filmmaker inquired if Salman actually wanted to work together given they had never collaborated before, the brother confirmed his interest. This prompted the director to write a fresh script, taking on the creative challenge of casting the actor in a completely unconventional role that he had never attempted before.
The Party Altercation and Heated Exchange
Subhash Ghai went on to detail the tense atmosphere and the physical altercation that took place between them prior to the film. According to his account, they were at a party where Salman was heavily intoxicated and making inappropriate remarks. The filmmaker stepped in, telling him not to speak that way. When Salman questioned some of the director's past choices, the filmmaker stood his ground, explaining that it was his prerogative as a director. The situation quickly deteriorated as verbal insults were exchanged, leading to a physical confrontation between the two.
Salim Khan Steps In and Salman Apologizes
The rift was ultimately mended thanks to the intervention of Salman's father, Salim Khan, who reprimanded his son and ensured he made amends. The morning after the incident, Salim called the director to apologize and let him know that Salman had confessed everything to his mother. Salim sent Salman directly to the filmmaker's residence to offer a formal apology. The actor apologized with utmost humility, which deeply impressed the director and made him respect Salman's immense reverence for his father. Water went under the bridge, they began meeting regularly, and they eventually teamed up for a cinematic venture.
Box Office Performance of Yuvraaj
Despite boasting a star-studded cast featuring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, and Katrina कैफ, Yuvraaj failed to make a significant impact at the box office. The narrative revolves around three estranged brothers named Deven, Gyanesh, and Danny, who reunite following the demise of their wealthy father. Complications arise as their relationships become entangled over the vast family estate and the immense wealth left behind, which each brother believes rightfully belongs to them.
