Popular South Indian cinema star Thalapathy Vijay and his wife Sangeetha are back in the headlines after a turbulent period regarding their marital status. Sangeetha has officially withdrawn the divorce petition she had previously filed in the family court, bringing an end to the widespread speculations surrounding their relationship.
The Initial Legal Hurdle Amid Political Ambitions
The divorce petition had surfaced right when Thalapathy Vijay was gearing up to enter active politics and contest elections. Despite the heavy personal turmoil and allegations of marital discord, the actor went on to secure a notable victory and carve out a path toward political relevance in Tamil Nadu. Putting all controversies to rest, Sangeetha recently chose to step back and officially take back her court petition.
From Dedicated Fan to Life Partner
Sangeetha did not originally hail from Tamil Nadu, making their romance resemble a classic cinematic plot. She was residing in London and was an ardent admirer of the actor's work. Driven by a desire to meet her favorite celebrity, she traveled all the way from London to Chennai. What began as an initial meeting soon blossomed into friendship and eventually matured into deep affection.
A Foreign Registry Followed by Traditional Rituals
Sangeetha's father was a businessman based in London. Following their initial encounter in Chennai, the pair registered their marriage in London shortly afterward. Exactly one year after completing the legal registration, the couple solemnized their union once more through traditional South Indian rituals in Chennai. After marrying the superstar, Sangeetha relocated permanently to Chennai, choosing to stay away from the glare of glamour and dedicating her time entirely to her home and children.
Deep Family Roots in Jaffna
While Sangeetha grew up overseas, her birth actually took place in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, before her father established his business abroad and settled the family internationally. After her marriage, she prioritized her husband and household above all else. Their son Jason Sungan once discussed his family's heritage in an interview, revealing that his mother hails from northern Sri Lanka and speaks Tamil fluently. Jason mentioned that his maternal grandfather still owns land in Sri Lanka, a place he personally visited while scouting locations for his debut directorial venture, noting that the ancestral soil holds a special place in his heart.
