The official promotional preview for the period spectacle Ranabali, featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, was unveiled on Thursday, October 8. Spanning roughly 3 minutes and 56 seconds, the footage transports viewers to colonial South India during a devastating famine. Hollywood performer Arnold Vosloo steps in as the primary antagonist enforcing oppressive colonial rule, setting the stage for Deverakonda's titular warrior to ignite a massive uprising against foreign tyranny.
The Legend of Singanamala and a Prophesied Destiny
The sequence opens with an expressive folk dance that honors the folklore of Singanamala hill and its storied guardian, Ranabali. As the traditional lore goes, a woman gave birth to the child inside a cave many years in the past. From the very moment of his arrival, a prophecy decreed that he would grow up to accomplish monumental deeds on behalf of his oppressed community, establishing his destiny as a protector long before he took up arms.
Colonial Oppression and Forced Labor
As the narrative unfolds, the harsh realities of the era become glaringly apparent to the viewer. Villagers find themselves coerced into heavy manual labor under the command of British officers. Despite initial promises of monetary wages, the laborers are met solely with humiliation, torture, and broken commitments. Witnessing this constant degradation, Ranabali begins questioning how foreign occupiers acquired unchecked authority over their indigenous land and people.
Domestic Life With Jayamma and the Call to Arms
Alongside the broader sociopolitical conflict, the trailer touches upon domestic life, showing Ranabali married to Jayamma, played by Rashmika Mandanna. While discussions regarding lineage and family continuity take place, peaceful moments remain exceedingly rare against the backdrop of an encroaching famine. With starvation threatening their very survival, the protagonist resolves to shield his people and confronts systemic injustice in a series of intense, high-octane action sequences.
Creative Team and Box Office Face-off
Direction has been helmed by Rahul Sankrityan, reuniting with Deverakonda following their prior collaborative venture Taxiwala. The ambitious cinematic project is bankrolled jointly by Mythri Movie Makers and T-Series, featuring an original musical score from the prominent composer duo Ajay-Atul. Scheduled for a theatrical debut on October 16 across five languages—Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam—the film is primed for a major theatrical clash against Rajinikanth starrer Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
