Despite receiving strong reactions from viewers, director Vinod Kapri has voiced deep frustration over the sudden reduction of shows for his film ‘Pyar’. The filmmaker has alleged that following the release of ‘Ramayana’, exhibitors and distributors drastically cut down the screenings of his movie. Making an emotional appeal, the filmmaker stated that theater owners and distributors have been instructed from above not to give space to any other film, even if those halls are running empty. Although he did not explicitly name anyone, his remarks clearly pointed toward the makers and distributors of ‘Ramayana’.
Shows Grew From Limited Release To Over 400
Vinod Kapri also questioned the integrity of those associated with the film industry, particularly at a time when themes of truth and goodness are supposedly promoted. He shared screenshots showing how screenings of his movie were reduced across multiple cities. Taking to Instagram, the director explained that when ‘Pyar’ first arrived in cinemas, they intentionally gave it a very limited rollout with roughly 80 shows. However, due to strong positive feedback from audiences, the number of shows surged to over 400 within just two to four days.
Claim Of Over 75 Percent Shows Being Removed
Vinod Kapri further alleged that over the past few days, more than 75 percent of their screenings have been pulled. Consequently, the count has dropped to fewer than 100. According to theater owners and distributors, they received strict instructions from higher-ups that no other film should be exhibited. While he refrained from directly naming the movie in question, he raised a pertinent question about why smaller films need to be shut down simply to clear the path for blockbuster projects.
Made On A Modest Budget Of 2.5 Crores
Vinod Kapri elaborated that he fails to understand why making way for one film requires shutting down another. He questioned whether this constitutes the victory of truth over falsehood or good over evil. Their small-scale film, made on a modest budget of 2.5 crore rupees featuring non-actors, moves audiences to tears inside theaters. He emphasized that while big budget filmmakers invested massive funds, they poured their hearts and souls into making this project and deserve a fair chance.
