This recipe does not require any complicated ingredients. Using basic items already available in your kitchen such as milk, vermicelli, sugar, and dry fruits, you can prepare a hot and tasty dessert. Let us explore the simple recipe and the exact ingredients needed to make it.
Required Ingredients and Measurements
To prepare sweet sevai for four people, you will need a packet containing about 70 to 80 grams of vermicelli. Along with this, keep ready a piece of coconut, a handful of fox nuts or makhana, 5 cardamoms, half a handful of raisins, and approximately one liter of milk. Additionally, take 2 to 3 spoons of ghee or refined oil and sugar according to your taste. If you prefer, you can also add other dry fruits of your choice to enhance the flavor.
Preparation and Roasting the Dry Fruits
According to Rahulraj, begin the process by cutting the coconut into small pieces. Remove the outer shells of the cardamoms to extract the seeds and chop the fox nuts into smaller portions as well. Now, place a kadhai on the stove and add 2 to 3 spoons of ghee or refined oil to heat it up. Add the coconut, fox nuts, raisins, and other dry fruits into the pan and roast them thoroughly. Once roasted, remove them from the pan and set them aside in a separate bowl.
Cooking the Vermicelli and Milk
In the same kadhai, add the vermicelli and roast it until it turns light brown. Next, pour in the milk and let it cook properly so that the vermicelli softens. When the vermicelli starts getting tender, mix in the sugar and cardamom according to your taste. Cook this mixture for a short while so that the ingredients blend well. Finally, add the previously roasted dry fruits back into the pan and leave the dish covered for about 5 minutes.
Serving the Dish
Once the vermicelli is thoroughly cooked, garnish it with a few extra dry fruits on top. In this manner, a tasty and steaming hot bowl of sweet sevai is ready right at home. You can easily serve this to four members of your family. Whenever a sudden desire for something sweet arises, this quick recipe proves to be a wonderful choice.
