A major burglary has come to light in the Faridabad district of Haryana, where thieves targeted the residence of a former village head in the Shahupura area under the jurisdiction of the Ballabhgarh Sadar police station. The incident, which took place late on Wednesday night at the home of former Sarpanch Devi, has left the local community in shock. The perpetrators locked the family members in their respective rooms before escaping with gold and silver jewellery, along with a significant amount of cash, collectively valued at approximately 1.5 crore rupees.
Thieves Scaled Walls to Enter the House
According to former Sarpanch Devi, he lives in a joint family structure with his three sons and their families in a single residence. On Wednesday night, Devi, his wife, and his youngest son were sleeping in a room on the ground floor. Meanwhile, his second son and daughter-in-law were asleep in their room on the upper floor of the house. Another daughter-in-law had gone to her maternal home with her child, leaving her room vacant. Taking advantage of the dark and quiet night, the burglars scaled the outer boundary wall to gain entry into the house. To prevent any resistance, the intruders locked the doors of the rooms where the family members were sleeping from the outside. However, they later unlocked the door of the room where Devi was sleeping before making their escape.
Loss of Valuables Worth 1.5 Crore Rupees
The burglars ransacked the cupboards and safes inside the house, looking for high-value items. On Thursday morning, around 5 AM, Devi woke up and noticed that the door of the front room was wide open. Upon entering, he found the cupboards completely rummaged through, with belongings scattered across the floor. A detailed inspection revealed that the thieves had stolen approximately 70 tolas of gold jewellery, 2.5 kilograms of silver ornaments, and 3.5 lakh rupees in cash. The cumulative value of the stolen gold, silver, and cash is estimated to be around 1.5 crore rupees. When Devi went upstairs to alert the rest of the family, he found that the door of his second son’s room was still locked from the outside. It was only after unlocking the door that the entire family realized the true extent of the burglary.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the discovery of the theft, the family immediately notified the local police. A team from the Sadar police station, accompanied by forensic experts, arrived at the crime scene to collect evidence and fingerprint samples. Prakash Chand, the in-charge of the Sadar police station, stated that a formal investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend the suspects. He added that the police are actively scanning CCTV footage from cameras installed near the house and along the main routes of Shahupura village. The police in-charge assured that special teams have been formed to track down the suspects and that the culprits will be arrested soon.
