The coordinated response followed an announcement by a self-described crypto trader known online as 'Raja D King', who declared plans to distribute complimentary premium smartphones on September 22 across public locations in Chandigarh and Mohali. The promoter claimed he would hand out iPhone 17 units alongside even more advanced device models to gathered crowds, prompting urgent administrative interventions to preserve civic order.
Public Safety Concerns and Blanket Prohibition
District authorities acted swiftly upon reviewing the viral claims, emphasizing the severe hazard posed to public safety. Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav instructed police units to halt any attempts to conduct such unauthorized demonstrations within the city limits. Senior officials noted that promises of high-value electronic giveaways inevitably attract massive, uncontrolled gatherings, significantly multiplying the danger of stampedes, personal injuries, and property damage. Notably, the same individual had previously organized a publicity stunt promising free petrol distribution. In response to the clear hazard, authorities placed an outright prohibition on the planned mobile phone giveaway.

Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and Mohali SSP Varun Sharma confirmed that organizers had neither sought nor secured required administrative clearances. Orchestrating a mass public event without mandatory official approval amounts to a direct contravention of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Furthermore, individuals attempting to incite or lead unauthorized gatherings will face criminal proceedings under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
