Ahead of the Karwa Chauth festival, shopping activity across Haryana has surged, transforming the historic Purani Maniyari Market in Ambala City into a bustling hub of festive preparations. Stalls across the marketplace are packed with women browsing through elaborate collections of traditional ornaments, bangles, and bridal accessories. While married women are focusing on curating their complete festive looks with matching bangles, newly married brides are prioritizing customized bridal choodas and contemporary designer kaleeras. The widespread influence of digital fashion aesthetics and social media platforms has clearly reshaped consumer demand in this traditional commercial street.
Surging Demand for Matching and Jelly Bangles
Local vendors report that festive shoppers are displaying a strong appetite for matching bangles that complement their ethnic outfits. While traditional glass bangles maintain their customary appeal, transparent and artisan variants are generating notable attention. Jelly bangles, Kashmiri bangles, and clear water-finish bangles are currently among the highest-selling items across stalls. Jelly bangles are priced between 25 and 100 rupees per dozen, making them an accessible option for everyday wear. Meanwhile, Kashmiri bangles with detailed surface designs retail between 50 and 100 rupees. Shoppers are selecting these pieces carefully against fabric swatches of their sarees and suits to achieve a coordinated festive presentation.
Personalized Choodas with Names and Wedding Dates
A notable evolution this festive season is the demand for customization in bridal choodas. Harmeet Kaur, a trader operating in Maniyari Market, noted that brides are increasingly moving beyond standard designs. Customers now request personalized choodas featuring their names, photographs, and wedding dates engraved or printed directly onto the bangles. In addition, patterns featuring American diamonds, Kashmiri craftsmanship, Kundan embellishments, and geometric stone cuttings have seen rising popularity. Young women frequently visit shops carrying social media reference images to order bespoke bangles. Across various shops, foundational customized and regular chooda sets are readily available at prices ranging from 150 to 900 rupees.
Cosmetics and Skin-Conscious Grooming Kits
Festive preparations extend well beyond ornaments, with cosmetics stores seeing strong foot traffic. Women are stocking up on facial kits, bleach packs, scented attars, and makeup accessories designed to coordinate with their attire. Standard makeup kits start at approximately 150 rupees and go up to 2,500 rupees for premium configurations. Retailers observed that shoppers are becoming much more discerning about ingredient profiles, actively seeking skincare-friendly and gentle cosmetic formulations. Demand for ethnic hairstyling accessories has also climbed, with artificial hair buns and elaborately woven Kashmiri parandas emerging as key festive essentials.
Designer Kaleeras Crafted with Himachali Cowries
For brides celebrating their first Karwa Chauth after marriage, unique ornamental statements have become the primary focus. Shopkeeper Manpreet Singh pointed out that Jaipuri jewellery and handcrafted designer kaleeras are witnessing unprecedented interest among newly married women. Particularly prominent are kaleeras crafted using Himachali cowrie shells, roasted lotus seeds known as makhanas, and strings of fine pearls. Simultaneously, high-end bridal choodas decorated with intricate Kundan settings and Kashmiri craft continue to sell actively. Across broader designer categories, specialized chooda varieties in the market range from 250 rupees to 6,000 rupees depending on the craftsmanship and materials used.
Pastel Hues Moving Alongside Classic Red
The contemporary palette of festive fashion is broadening significantly beyond the traditional bridal red. While crimson remains an undisputed staple of marital symbolism, brides are coordinating their accessories directly with non-traditional lehengas and festive gowns. Manpreet Singh noted that alternatives like magenta, hot pink, baby pink, peach, and mint green are generating remarkable sales. With diverse inventory suited to varying budgets, the Purani Maniyari Market in Ambala is meeting both everyday festive requirements and elaborate bridal plans, creating a vibrant commercial atmosphere as Karwa Chauth approaches.
