A financial dispute regarding taxi permit fees turned fatal in Faridabad, Haryana, culminating in the murder of a cab driver inside his own vehicle. The case came to light when the driver's body was discovered inside a taxi stationed along the main road of Sector-77, prompting an immediate law enforcement response. Demonstrating high urgency, the local police successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspect within a mere two hours of launching the investigation. According to investigators, the victim and the perpetrator had known each other for approximately four years, and both earned their livelihoods as taxi operators.
Discovery of the Body and Police Response
According to official details, the body of the driver was found slumped over the driver's seat inside a taxi on the Sector-77 main road on the morning of October 25. Upon receiving the distress alert, local authorities from the BPTP police station rushed to the scene alongside forensic science laboratory experts and crime branch teams. The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Prakash, a resident of KLJ Society in Sector-77. The police promptly notified the victim's family members. Subsequently, based on a formal complaint filed by the victim's younger brother Nirmal, a murder case was registered at the BPTP police station.
Investigation and Sequence of Events
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Central Crime Branch team initiated an intensive investigation and tracked down the suspect, identified as Kundan from Chandpur, within two hours. Initial police interrogation revealed that Kundan and the deceased Prakash had maintained a friendly acquaintance for nearly four years. Both worked as taxi drivers, and the suspect customarily processed his taxi permits through Prakash. A disagreement recently arose between them concerning the finances required to procure a fresh permit, which police identified as the primary catalyst for the tragedy.
Investigators stated that during the intervening night of October 24 and 25, the two men were sharing a drink inside the taxi when the argument over the permit money reignited. In a fit of rage, Kundan allegedly used a towel kept inside the vehicle to strangle Prakash to death. ACP Crime Varun Dahiya stated that the police are continuing their interrogation of the accused to examine all remaining aspects related to the crime and ensure a thorough probe.
