MBBS intern doctors serving across government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh are set to receive a substantial increase in their monthly compensation following a decision by the state government. Addressing a long-pending demand of the medical fraternity, the government has agreed to enhance the monthly stipend from ₹15,900 to ₹25,000. In response to this positive development and written assurance from the state health administration, the intern doctors have resolved to suspend their planned strike until August 30.
Positive Dialogue and Written Commitment in Raipur
The agreement was reached during a formal meeting held in the state capital, Raipur. A delegation representing MBBS interns from various government medical colleges met with Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal to present their grievances regarding stipend structure. Acknowledging the merit of their demands, Health Minister Jaiswal assured the delegation of an immediate stipend revision and handed over a written confirmation. This constructive engagement prompted the medical students to temporarily pause their call for agitation.
Revised Stipend Payout to Begin in September
Providing details of the discussion, Shahdil Khusroo, the state convener of the Indian Medical Association Medical Students Network (IMA-MSN) Chhattisgarh, highlighted the reassuring outcome of the dialogue. According to Khusroo, the health minister clarified that the necessary administrative paperwork and departmental filings are currently being processed. Once these official procedures conclude, the upgraded monthly payout of ₹25,000 will be credited directly to the accounts of eligible interns starting from the month of September.
Protest Suspended with Future Strategy on Standby
While expressing relief over the government's formal backing, the doctor associations maintain a cautious stance regarding timeline execution. Leaders from IMA-MSN and the intern doctors union affirmed that they respect the government step and will defer all planned demonstrations up to August 30. However, the association cautioned that if the promised stipend payout encounters delays beyond the stipulated timeframe, they will reconvene to decide their next course of action.
Financial Relief for Hundreds of Medical Interns
The announcement has brought widespread satisfaction to hundreds of MBBS interns working in government healthcare institutions throughout Chhattisgarh. Medical professionals noted that the stipend enhancement will provide much-needed financial stability. With reduced financial pressure, interns can focus more effectively on their clinical duties and deliver healthcare services across state hospitals with renewed dedication.
