The monsoon has made a forceful entry into both Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. On Thursday, heavy rain lashed Hisar, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Sonipat, Karnal, Gurugram and Fatehabad districts of Haryana, with lightning strikes reported from several places. Meanwhile, the hill state of Himachal Pradesh bore the brunt of the monsoon so severely that many areas suffered damage and authorities were forced to shut down several routes. The weather department has warned that both states will continue to see fierce thunderstorms and rain in the coming days. Here is a full breakdown of how the weather will unfold in both states on Friday, 03 July 2026.

Rain forecast for Haryana today

According to the weather department, rain will continue in Haryana today, 03 July, as well. The minimum temperature in the state is expected to hover around 26 degrees Celsius and the maximum around 34 degrees Celsius. Some places may see strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour along with thunderstorms and lightning. Light to moderate rain is possible across several parts of the state today.

Districts under thunderstorm and rain warning

Per the weather department's forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely today in Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Jind, Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri. Residents in these areas have been advised to avoid open fields and standing under trees.

Areas expecting light to moderate rain

The department says light to moderate rain is likely at several places in Yamunanagar, Mahendragarh, Rewari and Mewat. Besides this, light to moderate rain may also occur at some places in Palwal, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar. Officials say the monsoon will cover the entire state within the next 48 hours, and a rain alert has been issued for Haryana until 7 July.

How Himachal Pradesh's weather looks today

The IMD has forecast torrential rain continuing in several parts of Himachal Pradesh until 8 July. One to two districts are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, and this pattern is likely to persist until 8 July. Winds of 30 to 60 kilometres per hour may blow across these areas, with thunderstorms and lightning possible at some places, while higher hill areas could see snowfall along with rain.

Which districts are on alert

According to the weather department's forecast, rain is likely today in Una, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, a light to moderate rain alert has been issued for Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Solan and Lahaul Spiti. The weather department has urged travellers passing through these areas to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.

Mandi worst hit by yesterday's heavy rain

Heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh over the past day has left several routes blocked. The impact has been greatest in Mandi district, where 15 roads remain closed and 122 transformers are out of order. In addition, 18 roads are blocked in Kullu, 9 roads in Sirmaur, 2 roads in Una, and 2 roads in Lahaul Spiti. The disruption in power supply has directly affected daily life in these areas, and authorities are working to reopen the blocked routes.

What this means for you

  • Across India: With the monsoon advancing rapidly, more parts of the country are likely to see rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, so check weather updates before travelling.
  • In Haryana: Districts like Hisar, Gurugram and Karnal face a risk of strong winds and lightning, so avoid open areas and stay away from power lines and trees.
  • In Himachal Pradesh: Blocked roads and power outages in Mandi, Kullu and Sirmaur districts have disrupted daily life, so it is advisable to postpone travel to these areas for now.
