A tragic incident at the Regional Hospital in Una, Himachal Pradesh, triggered intense unrest and family protests after a woman and her newborn child lost their lives during delivery. The sudden deaths prompted grieving relatives to stage an agitation inside the healthcare facility, leading to heavy police deployment to maintain law and order. The tense atmosphere echoed memories of a similar incident involving Manju Sharma at Kullu hospital.
Patient Had Been Hospitalized for Four Days
The deceased woman has been identified as Reena, a resident of Upper Arniala. She was initially brought to the medical facility four days prior to the incident after experiencing labour pain. On Friday, medical staff moved her into the operation theatre situated inside the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) complex for delivery. Shortly after being shifted into the operating room, both the mother and the newborn passed away, leaving the family in shock.
Relatives Demand Suspension of Attending Doctor
Following the tragedy, the woman's family accused the attending female doctor of gross medical negligence and staged an agitated demonstration on the hospital premises. The victim's husband stated that his wife had been admitted four days earlier and alleged that lapses in her medical care directly led to the fatal outcome for both mother and infant. Demanding immediate suspension of the doctor, the family continued their protest for nearly four hours inside the hospital complex.
Police and District Administration Intervene
With tensions mounting across the hospital corridors, senior administrative and police officials rushed to the spot to defuse the situation. The Una Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) held discussions with the grieving relatives to restore order and address their grievances. Law enforcement personnel and administrative authorities are engaging with the family while closely monitoring the facility to prevent further disruption.
