A shocking incident has come to light in the Nurpur area of Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, where a mother and daughter from the same family died in suspicious circumstances overnight, while the family's teenage son is admitted to hospital in serious condition. The previous night had passed normally, with the family having dinner together before going to sleep, but the morning brought devastation. Given the seriousness of the case, Nurpur SP Ilma Afroz personally visited the spot to review the situation.
How the incident came to light
The case is from Gheli village under Dhewa panchayat in the Jwali area of Nurpur, Kangra district. Police investigation revealed that after having dinner at night, all family members had gone to sleep in their rooms. The next morning, when the head of the family, Buddhi Singh, woke up, he was stunned by what he saw. He kept trying to wake his wife and daughter, but neither of them responded. A panicked Buddhi Singh raised an alarm and called out to neighbours for help. When people gathered, it became clear that both the mother and daughter had already died.
Who the victims are and the son's condition
The deceased have been identified as 42 year old Shakuntala Devi and her daughter Priya. The exact cause of their deaths is not yet clear, and it is being treated as a death under suspicious circumstances. Around the same time, Buddhi Singh's son, Lekh Raj, was also found in a serious condition, unconscious and vomiting. Family members rushed him to Jwali hospital for treatment without delay, where his condition is being described as critical.
Police and forensic investigation
As soon as news of the incident spread, a police team reached the spot. Nurpur SP Ilma Afroz personally inspected the site and took stock of the case. A forensic team has been called in to determine the actual cause of death, and samples are being collected as part of the investigation. Police are also examining whether food poisoning could have caused the deaths. Buddhi Singh's statement has been recorded by police. However, the exact cause of the mother and daughter's deaths will only be confirmed once the postmortem report and forensic examination report come in.
