Sunday evening turned into a tragedy in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh as a devastating car crash resulted in three deaths and left one young man critically injured. Mountainous terrains in the state continue to witness such fatal mishaps, raising concerns over road safety. The vehicle, carrying four passengers, lost control on a sharp bend and plummeted into a deep abyss. Local emergency teams along with nearby residents rushed to coordinate rescue efforts under challenging dark conditions.
Details of the Highway Accident
The accident occurred on the Nahan-Kumarhatti-Shimla National Highway, along a stretch situated just below the Sarahan Hospital in the Sirmaur district. According to authorities, the vehicle was navigating a sharp curve during the late evening hours of Sunday when the driver lost control. The car rammed into the roadside concrete barrier with high force, breaking through the parapet before plunging approximately 150 feet down into the steep gorge. The Pacchad police department immediately dispatched emergency units to the spot upon receiving reports of the plunge.
Identities of the Victims and Survivors
There were four occupants inside the car at the time of the crash. Two individuals died on the spot due to the impact. The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Adhikari Jaitley, a resident of Sarahan and son of Ramakant, who was driving the vehicle, and 48-year-old Reena Sharma, wife of Ramlal Sharma and resident of Ghargaon Palasho. Reena Sharma was employed as a teacher in a government school. The driver's wife, 60-year-old Urmil Jaitley, was rescued from the wreckage in critical condition. She was initially rushed to Sarahan Hospital and subsequently referred to the medical college in Nahan. However, she tragically succumbed to her injuries on the way to the facility. The couple's 33-year-old son, Yashaswi Jaitley, survived the fall but sustained severe injuries. He is currently battling for his life at the Dr. YS Parmar Medical College in Nahan, where doctors describe his condition as highly critical.
Official Response and Immediate Relief
DSP Rajgarh VC Negi confirmed the details of the accident, stating that three people lost their lives and one remains seriously injured. SDM Pacchad Dr. Priyanka Chandra announced immediate financial assistance to support the affected families. The local administration has released an interim relief of Rs 25,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased individuals. Additionally, an immediate relief of Rs 5,000 has been provided to the injured youth, Yashaswi, to assist with immediate expenses. Following the legal procedures, the post-mortem examinations of the deceased are scheduled for Monday morning, after which their bodies will be handed over to their respective families for final rites.
