A severe road accident in Himachal Pradesh's capital, Shimla, late on Sunday night resulted in the deaths of two police personnel. The tragic collision occurred near the CPWD Colony on the Talland-Khalini road when an Alto car collided head-on with an oncoming tanker. Both occupants of the car sustained critical injuries in the crash. Emergency teams rushed them to IGMC Shimla, where attending doctors declared both dead upon arrival.
Severe Collision on Talland-Khalini Road and Emergency Response
According to police details, the incident took place on the night of August 16. The two police officers were traveling from Talland toward Khalini inside an Alto car bearing registration number HP-52A-2767. As their vehicle reached near the CPWD Colony, it crashed into an oncoming tanker registered as HP-92A-9229. The impact of the head-on collision was so severe that both officers inside the car suffered fatal injuries.
The deceased officers have been identified as Head Constable Parveen Mehta and Constable Hemant Kumar. Both were posted at the Police Line in Kaithu. Upon receiving news of the collision, a police team arrived at the spot immediately and rushed the severely injured personnel to IGMC Shimla, but medical intervention could not save their lives. The collision also briefly disrupted vehicle movement along the Talland-Khalini stretch as authorities cleared the site.
Police Investigation and Traffic Disruption
Confirming the tragic accident, SP Shimla Gaurav Singh stated that a police team arrived at the scene and launched a comprehensive investigation. Authorities are scrutinizing the exact circumstances that led to the collision, and necessary legal proceedings are currently underway.
As part of the ongoing probe, investigators are examining the speeds at which both vehicles were traveling at the time of the crash. Police are also evaluating whether driver negligence or reckless driving contributed to the collision. The technical examination of both involved vehicles is being conducted alongside the gathering of evidence from the crash site.

In another road incident in Shimla, an apple-laden pickup vehicle crashed near the ISBT crossing at around 6 AM on Monday. The pickup was carrying produce from Rohru toward the Solan vegetable market. Fortunately, both the driver and the co-driver suffered only minor injuries in the accident.
