A shocking incident of murder transpired in Paonta Sahib, an industrial town in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday. A 54-year-old vegetable vendor, identified as Bhav Singh Thakur, was brutally attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in a parking lot near the Vishwakarma Chowk area. The tragic assault triggered widespread outrage, leading grieving family members and local residents to block major roadways in protest. Demonstrating swift investigative action, law enforcement officials analyzed security footage from the surrounding area and apprehended two local suspects, a young man and a woman, within hours of the crime.
CCTV Footage Helps Detect Murder Sequence
Following the violent incident, police investigators immediately secured and reviewed CCTV footage from cameras installed around Vishwakarma Chowk and the adjacent parking facility. The security footage captured harrowing visuals of Bhav Singh Thakur running while clutching his neck in a desperate bid to escape his assailants. The footage also showed the suspects present at the scene. According to preliminary police findings, the attackers ambushed Bhav Singh inside the parking area and dealt a fatal blow to his neck with a sharp weapon. Bleeding profusely, the victim attempted to flee toward the main entrance gate of the nearby Vishwakarma Temple, but collapsed right at the gate due to severe blood loss and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. A visible trail of blood extending from the parking lot to the temple gate corroborated his struggle to survive after being targeted.
Victim Background and Identity of the Suspects
The deceased victim was identified as 54-year-old Bhav Singh Thakur, a resident of Awat village located in the Shillai tehsil of Sirmaur district. Bhav Singh earned a livelihood for his family through a daily routine of traveling to Nahan early every morning to purchase fresh vegetables. He would then bring the produce back to sell in local markets across his native village Awat and the Kafota market in Shillai tehsil. Family members stated that he was a peaceful individual with no known rivalries or disputes. Following up on lead evidence, Sirmaur Police arrested 21-year-old Mohammad Aamir, also known as Faggu, and 29-year-old Rekha, alias Annu. Both suspects are local residents of the Paonta area. Their arrest was officially confirmed by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sirmaur Narinder Sharma and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paonta Manvendra Thakur.
Investigation Focuses on Personal Acquaintance and Motive
Investigators are exploring multiple angles to determine the exact motive behind the fatal assault. Preliminary inquiries and details gathered from sources suggest that prior to the attack, Bhav Singh Thakur had reportedly spotted Mohammad Aamir and Rekha together in an objectionable position. This discovery led to a heated verbal altercation, which subsequently escalated into the deadly attack. ASP Narinder Sharma confirmed that the victim and both accused individuals were previously acquainted with one another. However, senior police officers stated that thorough interrogations are underway to establish the precise sequence of events and uncover the underlying conspiracy.
Protests at Vishwakarma Chowk and Legal Action
News of the murder sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting a large crowd of relatives and villagers to assemble at Vishwakarma Chowk in Paonta Sahib. Demonstrators staged a road blockade along the main thoroughfare, demanding immediate justice and strict punitive action against the perpetrators. Family members reiterated that Bhav Singh was a hard-working man who harbored no enmity toward anyone. The protest caused temporary traffic disruptions before police officials persuaded the crowd to disperse with assurances of a rigorous investigation. Police have formally registered a case of murder and are conducting further legal proceedings.
