A minor domestic dispute over shared residential amenities turned violent at an apartment complex on Sirsi Road in Jaipur, Rajasthan. An argument regarding drying laundry on the building terrace culminated in a physical assault on a female resident hailing from Assam. The entire confrontation was captured by the building surveillance network, prompting swift intervention from local law enforcement authorities.
Elevator Door Blocked as Attack Unfolded Before Toddler
The victim, identified as Rashmi Shikha Sarma, resides in the apartment complex with her husband and their three-year-old child. Tension escalated following an exchange of words between Sarma and her neighbours over clothes drying arrangements on the terrace. As Sarma attempted to use the elevator to leave the area, neighbour Abhinav Jain allegedly blocked the elevator doors, preventing her from departing.
Immediately following the obstruction, Jain's wife, Soma Jain, initiated a physical altercation with Sarma. Security camera footage retrieved from the site shows the accused woman grabbing Sarma by her hair and assaulting her. The harrowing incident occurred directly in front of the victim's three-year-old child, who was present near the lift during the confrontation.
Police Register Case and Take Husband into Custody
Following the attack, the victim approached the Bindayaka Police Station to report the altercation and file a formal complaint. Officers registered the case and initiated an investigation into the allegations. Acting on the preliminary findings, police arrested Abhinav Jain under charges related to breach of peace, while allegations of physical assault filed against his wife, Soma Jain, remain under active inquiry.
Assam Association Intervenes Alleging Derogatory Racial Remarks
The incident has drawn significant attention from the Assam Association, which has intervened to seek stringent accountability. The organisation alleged that the altercation went beyond physical violence, claiming the accused couple directed discriminatory and racial slurs at the victim during the encounter. Representatives asserted that hostility or prejudice directed at an individual based on their regional origin or background is unacceptable.
Demanding a thorough and impartial probe, the association urged senior police officials to hold the perpetrators legally accountable. The Bindayaka police confirmed that investigators are currently cross-referencing witness accounts with the seized CCTV recordings to establish the full sequence of events and proceed with appropriate legal measures.
