Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous line "I'll be back" is about to come true in the most literal way possible. James Cameron's blockbuster sci-fi sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day is returning to the big screen, timed to the film's 35th anniversary.
Where And When It's Coming Back
The film will return to cinemas across the UK and Ireland from September 4, presented in a range of formats including 4K digital, RealD 3D, and other premium formats. For many fans and critics, Judgment Day is considered the high point of the entire Terminator saga, which is part of why this re-release is being treated as a genuine event rather than a routine reissue.
James Cameron's Statement On The Re-Release
James Cameron said in a statement marking the re-release, "T2 was made for theaters, and our lovingly-prepared 3D version, coming back to the big screen, is the absolute best way to see the film." He then added a tongue-in-cheek warning, "I believe it's safe to do spoilers after 35 years, so SPOILER ALERT: the good guys win against the AI superintelligence! And maybe that's a message of hope we all could use this summer."
Built On The 2017 Restoration
The re-release is confirmed to come from the 4K restoration of the film completed in 2017, along with the 3D conversion the film received at that same time. That means audiences won't be seeing a brand-new remaster, but the same enhanced version prepared for the earlier restoration work.
Other Terminator Titles Getting A Mention
Alongside the re-release news, later entries in the franchise such as Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and Terminator: Dark Fate are also being brought up. So is the anime series Terminator Zero, described as an ace but short-lived show. As the franchise's signature line goes, there is no fate but what we make for ourselves.
