Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling is stepping into the sci-fi realm with a central role in the upcoming galactic movie Star Wars: Starfighter. During a presentation at the D23 convention in Anaheim, California, filmmaker Shawn Levy joined the actor to unveil footage and key story details about the project.
A High-Speed Hero on the Outer Edges
In the film, Gosling portrays a rogue character named Kade Auberon. Described as an outsider hailing from a rough corner of the cosmos, Auberon finds his destiny linked directly to the most swift starcraft ever constructed. Early preview scenes revealed at the event feature a young character played by Flynn Grey who stumbles upon Auberon's hidden speeder, triggering an interstellar journey across the galaxy far, far away.
Unexplored Timeline and Release Schedule
Setting the storyline apart from previous installments, Levy explained that the narrative unfolds during a cinematic era never previously depicted on screen. This aligns with earlier reports positioning the plot approximately five years following the events of Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker. The project caps off a busy stretch for Gosling and Levy, who also recently revealed their joint Ghost Rider project at Comic-Con.
Anniversary Milestone for the Franchise
Cinema audiences can expect Star Wars: Starfighter to hit big screens in May 2027. The debut coincides with the 50th anniversary of the franchise's legendary 1977 debut film. Furthermore, the theatrical premiere follows shortly after Ahsoka Season 2 makes its debut on Disney+ in January 2027.
