Three years after word first broke that David Robert Mitchell's acclaimed horror film It Follows was getting a sequel, the follow-up project titled They Follow is finally filling out its cast, with ten new names joining returning star Maika Monroe on the call sheet.
A Decade After The Curse
It Follows is widely regarded as one of the finest horror movies of the 21st century, built around a young woman being stalked by a shape-shifting entity passed between people through sexual contact, a premise fans have jokingly nicknamed a Sexually Transmitted Curse. They Follow is set roughly a decade after the events of that original film. The sequel was first announced three years ago, but updates on the project have trickled out slowly since then. Maika Monroe, who led the original film, is confirmed to return for the sequel.
Ten New Faces Join The Cast
Ten actors have now signed on alongside Monroe. The most notable addition is Michael Gandolfini, known for Daredevil: Born Again and Alex Garland's Warfare. He will be joined by Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children), Justine Lupe (Nobody Wants This), Anna Mirodin (Priscilla), Jayne Taini (Station 19), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Venom), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Testament Of Ann Lee), and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans).
Naomi Ackie Officially Confirmed
Last month it emerged that Naomi Ackie was in final talks to star opposite Monroe in the film. That deal has since been finalised, with Ackie now officially confirmed as part of the cast.
Plot Still Under Wraps As Original Crew Returns
Very little has been revealed about what They Follow will actually be about. Earlier this month, though, it was confirmed that several key figures from the first film are returning to work on the sequel: cinematographer Mike Gioulakis, editor Julio C. Perez IV, and composer Disasterpeace are all back on board.
Mitchell Teases A Script He's Proud Of
Discussing his return to the world of It Follows, Mitchell offered a glimpse into what to expect without giving too much away. "I'm very proud of the script," he said. "It is its own unique thing, while still being very much connected to the first film. It's doing something cool that is going to be really fun." With the cast largely locked in and the original creative team back behind the camera, anticipation is building among horror fans eager to see where Monroe's story goes next in They Follow.
