Marvel Studios has officially introduced the core actors set to bring the mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing together a stellar line-up during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Studio president Kevin Feige stepped onto the stage to announce the initial group of performers who will headline the upcoming reboot, establishing a long-awaited chapter for the franchise.
New Mutant Heroes and Villains Take the Stage
Leading the roster of characters is founding X-Men team member Jean Grey, portrayed by Sadie Sink, whose involvement was earlier revealed in connection with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Joining her in superhero roles are Kit Connor as Cyclops and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. The lineup of iconic heroes expands further with Christopher Abbott taking on the role of telepathic leader Professor Charles Xavier, while Obsession standout Inde Navarette plays Rogue and newcomer Maya Boyd portrays Storm. The actors, including Sink, Connor, and Weaving, joined Abbott, Navarette, and Boyd on stage at D23 after congregating backstage for their first group assembly.
Adam Driver Cast as Mister Sinister under Director Jake Schreier
In addition to the live stage appearance, a video broadcast revealed that Adam Driver is entering the franchise. Although he did not attend the Anaheim event in person, Driver sent a video message confirming he will play Nathaniel Milbury, better known as the villainous Mister Sinister. Driver initially poked fun at rumors by joking that he had been cast as Magneto before clarifying his actual role. The entire ensemble will star in the standalone X-Men feature directed by Jake Schreier, who recently helmed Thunderbolts*. Feige emphasized that while these announcements represent all confirmed performers so far, additional cast members will be revealed as production progresses.
Marvel Lineup Sets May 2028 Release Window
Feige also locked in the official theatrical debut for the mutant blockbuster, confirming that the X-Men film will hit theaters on May 5, 2028. This placement positions the mutant spectacle right after major crossover events, following Avengers: Doomsday this year and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Marvel's 2028 calendar promises to be exceptionally busy, as the slate will also feature Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3 alongside the X-Men's arrival in cinemas.
