Prior to this development, on September 5, the NCB had executed a series of raids at four separate vulnerable locations across the Jammu division. In a synchronized operation that also involved a follow-up action in Punjab, the central agency recovered a total of 6.920 kilograms of heroin. This massive seizure has dealt a severe blow to the international and interstate networks operating in the region.
Cross-Border and Interstate Trafficking Channels
A detailed investigation by the NCB revealed two primary channels utilized by the smugglers to transport heroin. Investigators established that the first major route originated across the border in Pakistan and entered Jammu and Kashmir directly through the Uri sector. The second route was an indirect interstate network that smuggled narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir via Punjab. NCB officials shared that these operations were centered primarily in those residential areas of the Jammu-Samba belt that had been designated by security agencies as high-risk, drug-affected zones.
Seizures Linked to Samba and Ludhiana
The most recent action in this series was conducted by the NCB on September 3, based on highly reliable intelligence inputs. Acting swiftly, a team intercepted a suspicious passenger bus near the New Bus Stand in Samba. A thorough search of a passenger, identified as a resident of Kakapora in Pulwama district, led to the recovery of 522 grams of high-quality heroin. During subsequent custodial interrogation, the suspect revealed a direct link to a distribution network in Ludhiana, Punjab. A follow-up operation was immediately launched in Ludhiana, resulting in the seizure of another 197 grams of heroin. In total, the Samba-Ludhiana link of this operation has yielded 719 grams of heroin, and investigations are ongoing to identify other distributors and financial backers of this drug ring.
