Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a sweeping and aggressive campaign against the narcotics trade and financial fraud, resulting in significant arrests and large-scale asset seizures across the region. During these extensive anti-drug operations, law enforcement personnel recovered a staggering 1,711 kilograms of banned substances. Police officials detailed that coordinated raids and search operations were conducted across multiple districts to dismantle the distribution networks and apprehend those involved in the illicit trade.
Targeting Financial Networks and Illicit Assets
The financial infrastructure sustaining the drug trade has also faced severe setbacks during the crackdown. Authorities recovered 1.10 million rupees in direct cash and targeted the financial lifelines of the syndicates by freezing 567 suspicious bank accounts holding 1.71 million rupees. Investigators revealed that the proceeds generated from narcotics sales are frequently funneled to fund underground workers associated with subversive elements. Law enforcement emphasized that the kingpins behind these operations, whether operating locally or from across the border, utilize these ill-gotten gains to support elements hostile to public peace.
Destruction of Illicit Crops and Property Seizures
Expanding the scope of the campaign, authorities neutralized illegal crops spread across 2,116 locations throughout the valley. The operations successfully eradicated banned cultivation spanning approximately 2,111 kanals of land. To date, the ongoing drive against narcotics has led to the detention of 1,941 individuals and the seizure of properties valued at 1540 million rupees. Over 1,500 formal cases have been registered against violators. These actions follow closely on the heels of a separate operation in Srinagar, which successfully dismantled a major drug syndicate resulting in eight arrests.
Crackdown on Cyber Fraud Networks
Alongside the offensive against narcotics, police have made substantial headway in tackling cybercrime. Recent investigations into online fraud complaints uncovered financial scams totaling over 540 million rupees. Authorities have successfully recovered approximately 13 to 14 percent of the defrauded amount, returning over 70 million rupees directly to victims. A total of 93 first information reports have been registered in connection with these cyber offenses, targeting the fraudulent accounts used to launder money. Officials warned that organized cyber syndicates, employing local recruits and foreign handlers, are increasingly targeting vulnerable populations and senior citizens, urging citizens to avoid dubious online schemes.
Public Appeals and Support Systems
Authorities have urged citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in the collective fight against narcotics and cyber fraud. Police assured informants that their identities would remain completely confidential and protected. Individuals possessing relevant information or seeking assistance were encouraged to approach local police stations or rehabilitation centers without hesitation. Furthermore, officials appealed to those struggling with substance abuse to seek professional medical help rather than suffering in silence, reminding the public that youth represent the future of society. Citizens were additionally cautioned against falling prey to organized gangs utilizing mule bank accounts for illegal financial transactions.
