Monsoon activity is far from over in Jharkhand, and the state is set for a stretch of cloudy skies and intermittent rain over the coming days. The weather department says skies will remain overcast across Jharkhand until September 7, with light to moderate rain and thunder expected in several areas. At the same time, maximum temperatures could climb by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next five days, adding to the humidity.
Lightning and gusty winds forecast from September 8 to 10
According to the forecast, September 8 will bring light to moderate rain to many parts of the state, a pattern that is expected to continue on September 9 and 10 as well. The department has also issued a specific warning that thunder and lightning strikes could occur in isolated pockets on September 5, 6 and 7. From September 8 to 10, thunderstorms are likely to be accompanied by strong winds blowing at 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, and residents have been urged to stay alert during this window.
Districts likely to feel the impact
The shift in weather is expected to be felt across nearly every part of Jharkhand. In central Jharkhand, Ranchi, Bokaro, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Koderma and Dhanbad will be affected. In the south, East and West Singhbhum, Simdega and Saraikela-Kharsawan are likely to see rain and thunder as well. The north-western districts of Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra and Latehar are not expected to be spared either, while in the north-east, Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur and Sahibganj could also see light rain and stormy conditions.
Temperature and rainfall recorded over the last 24 hours
Over the past 24 hours, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius, which is 4.3 degrees below normal. Daltonganj logged a high of 32.1 degrees Celsius, while Bahragora touched 33.5 degrees Celsius. In the same period, Ranchi received 0.2 millimetres of rain and Saraikela recorded 0.5 millimetres. For the monsoon season so far, since June 1 Ranchi has recorded a cumulative 1087.3 millimetres of rainfall, Jamshedpur 993.3 millimetres, and Daltonganj 1015.4 millimetres.
Advisory for residents
The weather department has advised people to avoid open spaces whenever conditions turn bad, as a precaution against the risk of injury from lightning strikes and thunderstorms.
