The Ministry of Communications has officially issued an order approving a productivity-linked bonus equivalent to 60 days of wages for postal department employees for the financial year 2025-26. This welfare decision is set to deliver direct financial relief to more than 60,000 workers across Bihar and Jharkhand, alongside postal staff across the national network.
Eligible Employee Categories
According to the official order released by the ministry, the bonus covers non-gazetted cadres across various posts. The primary beneficiaries include Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C employees, and non-gazetted Group B officials. Furthermore, regular Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) who handle crucial last-mile postal connectivity will receive this financial payout as an ex-gratia bonus allocation.
Wage Ceiling and Calculation Guidelines
To determine the exact bonus payout, the government has fixed a monthly wage calculation ceiling of Rs 7,000, which includes basic pay, DA, and applicable allowances. The bonus amount will be computed for a 60-day period based on average wages earned between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026. Employees who have not completed a full year of service during this financial cycle will be eligible for a pro-rata payout proportionate to their active service tenure.
Rules for Casual Labourers and Retiring Staff
For Gramin Dak Sevaks, bonus entitlement will be calculated using their TRCA plus DA, subject to the same upper monthly ceiling of Rs 7,000. Full-time casual workers who have completed at least three consecutive years of service are also included under an ad-hoc bonus scheme, calculated on a notional wage of Rs 1,200 per month. These workers must have logged a minimum of 240 working days in the year (or 206 days in offices operating on a five-day work week). Eligible personnel who retired, resigned, or separated from service during the financial year will also receive proportional bonus benefits for their period of duty.
