Law enforcement authorities in Rajasthan's Ajmer district have achieved a major breakthrough in a high-profile robbery case where a gang posed as Income Tax officials to loot a local businessman. Police have arrested the eighth suspect in connection with the crime, identified as Mitthu Malik, a resident of Uttam Kumar Bolna in the Srinagar area. During the ongoing investigation, police managed to recover stolen jewellery valued at approximately Rs 3 crore, along with walkie-talkies and a motorcycle utilized by the culprits during the operation. Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody, while investigators continue to trace further operational links behind the crime.
Eighth Accused Nabbed and Valuables Recovered
Superintendent of Police Harsh Vardhan Agarwala disclosed details of the investigation, stating that police teams acted on specific intelligence to apprehend Mitthu Malik. On Saturday, after undergoing preliminary inquiry, the suspect was presented before the court, which ordered him to be sent to jail. Investigators are now relying on information gathered during his questioning to unravel the remaining details of the crime plot.
The total recovery in this case has now reached nearly Rs 3 crore in stolen jewellery. Additionally, police seized walkie-talkies that the gang members used for communication during the raid, as well as a motorcycle employed for transport. Police officials believe these physical recoveries provide crucial evidentiary support to build a strong legal case against the perpetrators.
The October 9 Heist and Fake Raid Plan
The incident occurred on October 9 at the residence of transport businessman Anil Maheshwari, situated under the jurisdiction of the Nasirabad Sadar police station. Miscreants barged into the house under the pretense of being officers from the Income Tax Department. Deceiving the occupants with fake credentials, the gang carried out a systematic dacoity and escaped with valuable jewellery.
Upon receiving news of the brazen robbery, Ajmer police immediately mobilized multiple tactical teams and launched intensive searches across the region. Demonstrating rapid responsiveness, law enforcement personnel tracked down and arrested six core suspects within just five hours of the crime being committed.
Interrogation Findings and Ongoing Investigation
Among those apprehended in the initial round of arrests were Amit Kumar, Ravikant alias Ravi, Nakul, and Taruram. Police secured police remand for these individuals to conduct in-depth interrogations. It was during these custodial sessions that the suspects disclosed Mitthu Malik's involvement and his role in facilitating the crime.
Armed with these specific leads, police tracked down Mitthu Malik and took him into custody. According to SP Harsh Vardhan Agarwala, the investigation is currently focusing on uncovering how the robbery was originally planned, who conducted the initial surveillance on the businessman's residence, and whether additional conspirators provided logistics or information. Law enforcement officers emphasized that comprehensive investigations remain active to ensure every individual involved faces legal justice.
