A chilling homicide involving an Indian national has come to light in the United Arab Emirates, where a native of Karnataka's Udupi district was found brutally murdered in Sharjah. The victim, identified as Elvin Prekash Kunder from Kundapura, was allegedly slain in July. The gruesome crime was uncovered after investigators located his body chopped into nine parts and concealed inside a vehicle. The incident has sent shockwaves through the expatriate community, while the whereabouts of his immediate family remain entirely unknown.
Fourteen Years of Service at Sharjah Airport
Elvin Prekash Kunder had been an employee at Sharjah Airport for the past 14 years, maintaining a long-standing career in the Gulf nation. Before heading back to resume his duties, he had travelled to his ancestral hometown in Karnataka during December of the previous year. His family unit in Sharjah comprised his wife, Tina Kunder, and their school-going son. Tina, who originally hails from Udyavara in Udupi, works as a schoolteacher in Sharjah, while their son is currently enrolled as a 10th-grade student. Disturbingly, both Tina and the boy have been reported missing ever since the murder took place, deepening the mystery surrounding the tragedy.
Suspicious Text Messages Raise Immediate Alarm
The sequence of events leading to the discovery began when Elvin's brother, Anil Prashanth Kunder, tried getting in touch with him from India. Anil stated that he placed a phone call to Elvin on July 20, but the call went unanswered. Shortly afterwards, Anil received a short text message stating that Elvin was doing fine. According to Anil, this interaction felt distinctly unnatural because his brother had never communicated in such an evasive manner before. When another follow-up call a week later yielded no response, suspicions mounted rapidly.
Fearing that something grave had transpired, Anil reached out to Manohar, a former schoolmate of Elvin who is currently based in Sharjah. Anil requested Manohar to pay an immediate visit to Elvin's residence to assess the family's welfare.
Conflicting Claims and Passport Verification
Acting on the request, Manohar went to the residential apartment provided to the Kunder family by Elvin's employing firm. Upon arrival, the building's watchman informed him that Elvin had already relocated back to India. Troubled by this revelation, Anil contacted the human resources division of the company, where staff members initially echoed the watchman's claim, asserting that Elvin had returned to India.
Refusing to accept the explanation, Anil called the employer again the following day, firmly asserting that his brother had never arrived in India and urging them to initiate a proper enquiry. Upon auditing travel and passport documentation, the corporate management verified that Elvin had never exited the country and was still officially within Sharjah. Following this confirmation, a missing person complaint was lodged with the local authorities.
Remains Recovered in Two Bags on the Oman Route
During the subsequent police probe, an abandoned car parked along the highway leading towards Oman was searched. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered the dismembered remains of Elvin Prekash. The perpetrators had sliced the body into nine sections and packed the remains across two separate bags inside the automobile. The specific motives driving the homicide, along with the precise circumstances under which it took place, are yet to be determined by investigators.
Seeking justice, Anil Prashanth met the Superintendent of Police in Udupi on Monday to present a formal memorandum demanding rigorous action and diplomatic follow-up. While police officials have withheld formal public statements pending official communication from UAE and Sharjah authorities, the local community remains on edge as search efforts continue for the missing mother and son.
