The Lokayukta police have stepped in to investigate the high-profile cash recovery case in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. Following the seizure of a massive amount of unaccounted currency from the residential premises of an auto-rickshaw driver in the Gopalganj police station jurisdiction, the anti-corruption agency has officially assumed control of the probe. Given the gravity of the offense and the immense sum involved, a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to examine every angle of this illegal financial transaction.
Five-Member SIT Takes Charge of Investigation
The newly formed SIT is closely analyzing the origin of the seized funds to determine how such a substantial quantity of liquid cash ended up in the possession of an auto driver. Investigators are working to trace the true ownership of the money and uncover the broader network of individuals linked to the case. With the Lokayukta actively leading the probe, further revelations regarding influential figures connected to the stash are expected to emerge in the coming days.
Scrutiny of PWD Engineer Ramesh Ahirwar
Providing official details on the proceedings, Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (SP) Durgesh Rathore confirmed that the name of Public Works Department (PWD) engineer Ramesh Ahirwar surfaced during initial inquiries. In light of this development, the agency has expanded its investigation to evaluate the total assets, properties, and official dealings of Ramesh Ahirwar. Furthermore, the Lokayukta team will soon take formal custody of the seized cash, amounting to over Rs 3 crore, from the Gopalganj police station authorities.
Background of the August 16 Raid
The case originates from an operation conducted on August 16, when the Gopalganj police raided the residence of auto driver Saurabh Ahirwar based on specific intelligence. During that search, law enforcement officers recovered unaccounted cash totaling more than Rs 3.02 crore. The recovery of such a staggering amount sparked widespread speculation and raised questions regarding potential delays by investigative authorities during the preliminary phase. The direct intervention of the Lokayukta is now anticipated to expedite legal proceedings and bring complete clarity to the matter.
