Flaunting his wealth on social media reels turned out to be a costly mistake for a 19 year old youth in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district. Three men who watched his reels ended up kidnapping him and then demanded a hefty ransom of Rs 10 lakh from his family. Acting quickly, the police first froze the bank account used by the accused, then arrested them and rescued the youth unharmed.
What exactly happened
The 19 year old youth, who lives in the Pawai area of Panna district, used to show off expensive mobile phones and a lavish lifestyle in his reels. He has been identified as Anshul alias Kanha Dengre, son of a cloth merchant. On June 27, three men kidnapped Kanha and demanded Rs 10 lakh from his family in exchange for his release. Frightened by the threat, the family transferred Rs 1.48 lakh to the bank account given by the accused. At the same time, they also alerted the police about the kidnapping without wasting any time.
How the police rescued the youth
As soon as the complaint reached them, the police swung into action. They first got the accused's bank account frozen so that the ransom money could not be used. Investigators then moved fast and arrested three men named Rajkamal Rajak, Rajkumar Pal and Shivendra Singh. During the operation, the police also safely recovered Kanha from the captors. According to the police, one pistol, two country made pistols and two motorcycles used in the crime were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Accused paraded through Pawai's streets
After the arrests, the police paraded all three accused on foot through the main roads of Pawai town. The idea behind the parade was to send out a strong message against crime and to keep public trust in the police intact, so that no one else would dare to attempt a similar crime. The three accused were later produced before a court, which sent them to judicial custody.
A similar case had surfaced in Shivpuri
This is not the only case where flaunting wealth on reels has proved costly. In Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, a woman named Rachna Gurjar had shown off expensive jewellery in her reels, after which thieves targeted her house. Last month, thieves broke into Rachna Gurjar's house and stole jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. Both incidents show how risky it can be to publicly display personal wealth and lifestyle on social media.
