Police in Bhopal have uncovered a chilling murder case involving a 16-year-old boy whose body was discovered near the Lower Lake, solving the mystery within 11 days of the grim discovery near Dhobi Ghat. Investigators revealed a bizarre motive that shocked everyone involved, stating that the accused were influenced by a social media reel claiming that human private parts could be sold for massive sums of money. Driven by this misconception, the perpetrators targeted the young victim and took his life.
The Tragic Killing and Arrests
The victim, Rehan, earned his livelihood in the area by selling pens and keychains. After ending his life, the accused attempted to harvest his private parts to sell them for a profit, though their illegal deal ultimately failed. Taking swift action, police arrested two individuals in connection with the crime: 18-year-old Aamir Qureshi and 20-year-old Zoheb Khan. Rehan was murdered on August 6, and his body was found four days later on August 10 near Dhobi Ghat close to Prem Mandir.
Postmortem Findings and Identification
According to the medical examination, the postmortem confirmed that Rehan was killed following severe attacks on his stomach and legs, and his private parts were missing from the corpse. Initially, the body was unrecognisable, but the victim's mother, Rani Shah, successfully identified her son through a tattoo reading 'SK-Shankar' on his hand. After severing the private parts, the accused placed them inside a plastic bag. When Zoheb failed to find a buyer, the bag was returned to the main accused and eventually thrown into the lake days later.
The Reel That Sparked the Conspiracy
According to investigators, one of the accused who claimed to be a medical student showed Zoheb a reel depicting claims from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia about earning huge amounts of money by selling private parts. Luring Rehan with the promise of 100 rupees, they took him along and committed the murder. Police are currently expanding their probe to determine whether any other individuals were involved in this gruesome conspiracy.
