Monsoon has fully set in across Madhya Pradesh, with heavy rain lashing most districts. The showers have brought relief from scorching heat and cheered up farmers watching their fields, but in several areas the same rain has turned destructive. Rivers and streams are swollen, and waterlogged roads have thrown daily life out of gear. In Ujjain, the Shipra river rose so sharply that small temples on its ghat were seen partly submerged in the floodwater. At some spots the rainwater flowed with such force that parked vehicles were swept away, with videos of the scenes going viral on social media. On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the weather across the state continues in largely the same pattern.
The Meteorological Centre in Bhopal has issued an orange alert today for Dhar, Mandla, Betul, Barwani, Ratlam, Shajapur, Balaghat, Dindori and Pandhurna districts. Heavy rain is likely across most parts of these districts, with wind speeds expected to touch 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. The weather department has advised residents of these districts to stay alert and avoid stepping out of their homes today unless absolutely necessary.
