A tragic incident has unfolded in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district along the Ballarpur route, where a 12-year-old fifth-standard student was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside the residential quarters of a privately run institution, Sanmitra Sainik School. The deceased child has been identified as Jeevan Vilas Jharekar, a resident of Khambada village located in Rajura tehsil. The discovery of the incident around 6 pm triggered widespread panic and distress across the school premises.
Father Received Distress Call on His Way Back to Village
Jeevan had joined Sanmitra Sainik School during the ongoing academic year and lived on campus in the school hostel. On Thursday, after developing a skin condition, his father arrived at the campus and took him to a dermatologist in Chandrapur city for a medical checkup. After the doctor completed the consultation, the father brought his young son back to the hostel, handed him over to the staff, and departed to return home to Khambada village.
While the father was still on the road heading home, a teacher from the school called his mobile phone, urging him to turn around and rush back to the campus immediately. The anxious father quickly headed back toward the school, but before he could reach the gates, a second call informed him that his 12-year-old son had passed away.
Family Demands Answers as Postmortem Awaited
The sudden loss has shattered the young boy's family, who rushed to the location in profound grief. The student's body was transferred to the District General Hospital for a postmortem examination. Distraught relatives have raised serious questions regarding campus oversight and student safety protocols, pointing out that neither school administrators, hospital authorities, nor investigating police officers have yet provided a clear explanation for how the boy died. Police have initiated a formal inquiry to piece together the exact timeline.
Suspected Suicide Under Investigation
Preliminary accounts suggest that the young boy had appeared uneasy adjusting to residential hostel life following his admission. At the time of the occurrence, other hostel boarders were reportedly out on the playground playing games. It is suspected that the student may have retreated to his room alone during this interval and hanged himself. Officials note that this remains an unconfirmed initial assessment; the underlying reasons that may have prompted such an action, alongside the full context of the tragedy, will become clear only once the postmortem findings and forensic police inquiries are concluded.
