Major political developments are brewing in Maharashtra regarding a potential merger of the Nationalist Congress Party factions. According to insider information, a specific faction within the party is actively pushing to bring the two separated groups back together under one umbrella.
The Stance of Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel
The faction led by Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel is keen on materializing the merger of the NCP factions. At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party is reportedly in favor of having the Sharad Pawar-led faction join the National Democratic Alliance as well. However, this move is facing internal resistance from family and party members, with Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar strongly opposing the merger. Amidst these political maneuvers, Praful Patel visited Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday evening to check on Sharad Pawar's health.
Hospital Meeting and Discussions
During the visit, the two leaders reportedly discussed the prospective merger of the party alongside a message sent by Prime Minister to the senior leader. With Sharad Pawar facing recurring hospital admissions, questions remain over whether Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar will eventually yield to the growing demands for a unified NCP.
Impact on the Opposition Alliance
A shift involving the NCP SP camp bringing along the support of 8 key MPs and having Sharad Pawar, one of the senior-most leaders of the opposition block, join the ruling alliance could significantly dent the momentum and resistance mounted by the opposition bloc.
Potential Portfolios and Future Security
Under this prospective arrangement, a cabinet minister berth could be secured for Supriya Sule, ensuring her political future within the unified NCP camp. Furthermore, senior leaders like Jayant Patel are slated to receive the finance portfolio in the Maharashtra state cabinet.
