Delhi Police Crime Branch has achieved a major breakthrough by apprehending a wanted militant belonging to the banned outfit Peoples Liberation Army, commonly known as PLA. The details regarding this high-profile operation were formally shared during a press conference addressed by DCP Crime Harsh Indoro at the Police Headquarters media center. The arrested individual has been identified as RK Regan Singh alias Gandhi, aged 35 years. According to official police records, the accused was wanted in connection with two separate cases registered under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act at Thoubal police station in Manipur. Following his apprehension in the national capital, his identity was duly verified and confirmed by Manipur Police, and after completing all necessary legal procedures, he was handed over to the state police team for further legal action.
Technical Surveillance and Local Informants Lead to the Arrest
The operation was set into motion on September 3 when the Crime Branch received specific and reliable intelligence inputs indicating that a wanted operative of the proscribed PLA was currently hiding within Delhi. Acting swiftly on these inputs, senior police officials constituted a dedicated special team to track down the suspect. The team initiated operations using advanced technical surveillance and local intelligence networks. Initial digital tracking traced the suspects location in the vicinity of AIIMS hospital. A police team rushed to the location, but verification revealed no patient admitted under that name or description. Expanding the search perimeter, officers conducted thorough checks at various hotels and guest houses in the Yusuf Sarai locality, alongside reviewing nearby closed-circuit television camera footage. Additional search operations were simultaneously carried out across upscale residential neighborhoods including Safdarjung Enclave and Green Park to trace the fugitive.
Uncle Was Among Founding Members While Suspect Falsely Denied Affiliation
During the initial stages of the operation, investigators faced a significant challenge due to the lack of a clear photograph or physical description of the accused, making identification difficult. After persistent efforts and intensive local inquiries, police detained a suspicious individual hailing from Northeast India in the Yusuf Sarai area. During initial questioning, the suspect provided a false identity to mislead officers and flatly denied any connections with militant outfits. Police then dispatched his photographs to authorities in Manipur, where his true identity as RK Regan Singh alias Gandhi was verified. During subsequent sustained interrogation, the accused revealed that his uncle was among the founding members of the PLA, and he himself later joined the organization. According to police records, he operated as an active member of the banned outfit. Meanwhile, demonstrating ongoing security crackdowns in the capital, Delhi Police recently busted a nationwide narcotics network, seizing drugs worth 60 crore rupees, locating an illicit manufacturing factory in Lucknow, and arresting 7 individuals.
Manipur Police Escort the Accused Back
Investigators established that the accused is a native of the Thangmeibond Lourongurel Leikai area in Manipur. He faces two criminal cases registered against him at the Thoubal police station in Manipur. One of these cases includes various sections of the Indian Penal Code alongside multiple provisions of the UAPA, while the second case is registered specifically under Section 20 of the UAPA pertaining to membership of terror outfits. Upon receiving information regarding the arrest, a special team from Manipur Police rushed to Delhi. After fulfilling all statutory legal requirements, the visiting team took custody of the accused to transport him back to Manipur for comprehensive investigation into his underground networks and associates.
