Global energy markets have experienced severe volatility as escalating geopolitical conflicts and security concerns disrupt traditional supply routes. The worsening friction between the United States and Iran, alongside growing doubts regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, has pushed crude oil valuations significantly higher.
Brent crude breaks key psychological milestone
Analysts at Deutsche Bank note that Brent Oil has climbed above the one hundred dollar per barrel threshold for the first time since July. Market participants are actively adjusting their positions to account for a more protracted period of elevated petroleum prices, with six-month Brent futures similarly advancing to their highest valuation since early June.
Market turbulence and the US-Iran conflict
Stagflation anxieties have intensified across trading floors following the sharp movement in crude valuations. The primary catalyst driving these shifts remains the series of recent military exchanges between the United States and Iran. These developments have cast serious doubts on whether the critical Strait of Hormuz shipping lane will resume normal operations in the near future.
Additional reports indicated that White House advisers privately raised the possibility with President Donald Trump that the ongoing conflict could extend through the remainder of his term in office. Consequently, Brent crude gained 3.36 percent by the market close to settle at 101.21 dollars per barrel, marking its highest finish since May. Furthermore, market participants moved to price in extended high valuations as the six-month Brent contract advanced 1.55 percent to reach 86.09 dollars per barrel.
Broader currency and commodity movements
Across currency markets during the Asian trading session, various pairs exhibited mixed behavior amidst shifting macroeconomic expectations. The AUD/USD pair held near multi-month highs supported by rising interest rate hike expectations from the Reserve Bank of Australia, while hawkish Federal Reserve expectations and safe-haven demand provided a floor for the US dollar ahead of crucial inflation reports.
At the same time, USD/JPY hovered near recent seven-month lows as strong policy repricing from the Bank of Japan continued to strengthen the Japanese yen. In the precious metals market, gold recovered from intraday dips below the 4,400 dollar mark, though traders remained cautious ahead of upcoming US Consumer Price Index and Producer Price Index data releases. Meanwhile, digital assets such as Raydium sustained strong bullish momentum alongside broader decentralized exchange activity, and central bank policy expectations remained in focus across Europe.
