Indian-origin professionals in the United States continue to make remarkable strides through their exceptional abilities and generosity. Engineer couple Vikas Sinha and Anuradha Sinha have made a historic donation of 20 million dollars, amounting to approximately 190 crore rupees, to the University of North Texas. This substantial financial contribution will be utilized to establish a brand-new college dedicated entirely to artificial intelligence and advanced analytics within the university.
From civil engineering roots to tech leadership
Both Vikas and Anuradha Sinha completed their foundational education in India, earning their Bachelor of Technology degrees in civil engineering from Sri Venkateswara University in Andhra Pradesh. Driven by aspirations for higher education, they later relocated to the United States and completed their postgraduate studies at Florida Atlantic University. Vikas continued his academic journey by studying at Northwestern University and subsequently earned his PhD from the University of North Texas in 2023. Today, he serves as the vice president of the mainframe software division at major technology enterprise Broadcom.
Reflections on the immigrant journey
Sharing his thoughts on this monumental contribution, Vikas Sinha emphasized how education paved the way for his success and expressed a desire to create similar pathways for future students. He stated that the gift is much more than a financial donation because it demonstrates that immigrants do not merely live the American dream, but actively help build and shape it.
Structure and vision of the new AI college
The newly established college will operate primarily through two core divisions. The Division of Applied Intelligence and Informatics will focus on implementing smart systems into the practical world, while the Division of Information and Learning Applications will examine how humans, societies, and institutions utilize artificial intelligence technologies. The overarching goal is to equip students not just to be users of AI, but to understand, construct, question, and responsibly govern these advanced systems.
Endowments, scholarships, and research growth
The 190 crore rupee contribution from the Sinha couple will fund six permanent endowments supporting student scholarships, faculty professorships, advanced research initiatives, and technology incubation. Additionally, an Applied Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Institute will be created on campus to bridge academic research directly with the global technology industry.
A continuing legacy of academic support
The connection between the Sinha family and the University of North Texas spans multiple years of sustained philanthropy. In 2024, the couple provided foundational funding to launch the Anuradha and Vikas Sinha Department of Data Science, followed by the establishment of the Sinha Innovation Lab for Data Science in 2025. Their 2026 contribution stands as one of the largest educational gifts ever made by Indian expatriates in the United States.
