Primary equity markets witnessed massive activity as the initial public offering of Reliance Group's digital and telecom arm, Jio Platforms, attracted widespread participation across investor categories. Market momentum remained high throughout the bidding period, backed by substantial capital inflows from deep-pocketed market participants. Qualified institutional buyers led the charge with unprecedented demand, driving the primary issue to landmark subscription levels. Overall, the public offering was subscribed over 22 times, while the category reserved for institutional buyers saw bidding interest surge beyond 70 times the shares on offer.
Institutional and Non-Institutional Bidding Dynamics
The highest quantum of interest originated from qualified institutional buyers (QIBs), a group comprising asset management funds, insurance entities, and global institutional investors. Against an allocated quota of 4.90 crore shares, QIB bids reached an impressive 345.75 crore shares. Parallelly, the non-institutional investors (NIIs) segment recorded robust traction, achieving a 14.00 times subscription level. Bidders in the NII space placed offers for 51.03 crore shares against the 3.64 crore shares earmarked for their category.
Retail, Employee, and Shareholder Participation
Retail individual investors also demonstrated clear enthusiasm, taking their dedicated portion to a subscription rate of 2.72 times. Out of the 8.50 crore shares made available to retail bidders, total bids received touched 23.11 crore shares. The reservation bucket set aside for eligible employees was subscribed 2.93 times, whereas the shareholder reservation portion recorded 7.60 times subscription by the close of the issue. Demonstrating immediate market fervor, the entire offering had crossed full subscription within just 100 minutes of opening on October 21.
