The government of Meghalaya has taken a significant step toward transforming classroom instruction by launching a technology-assisted teaching pilot across thirty-one government and government-aided schools in the East Khasi Hills district. Designed specifically to enhance learning outcomes in Mathematics and Science, the initiative encompasses both urban and rural educational institutions to evaluate how effectively digital resources can be integrated into everyday academic environments.
Implementation Under MPOWER
The program operates under the broader umbrella of the Meghalaya Programme for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment and Resilience, known as MPOWER. As part of the preliminary preparation facilitated directly by the state Education Department, a total of 47 teachers and four school principals completed specialized training in digital pedagogy through the CK-12 Learning Platform. The comprehensive training regimen focused heavily on interactive learning materials, digital teaching tools, and their practical implementation within standard classroom settings.
Advanced Digital Resources for Students
Through this rollout, students spanning from Class 6 to Class 12 will gain direct access to specialized digital resources centered on Mathematics and Science. The offerings include interactive and adaptive learning content that enables learners to study, revise, and practice at an individual pace suited to their capabilities. A notable inclusion within the platform is Flexi, an artificial intelligence-powered tutor designed to deliver step-by-step explanations alongside personalized learning assistance for complex academic problems.
Empowering Educators Through Data
Instructors are similarly positioned to benefit through the integration of AI-based tools and comprehensive learning data. Educators will utilize these assets to design engaging classroom activities, pinpoint specific learning gaps among students, and deliver targeted additional support where necessary. Sampath Kumar, Project Director of MPOWER, noted that incorporating technology into education makes the process more accessible and engaging while placing students firmly at the center of the learning journey. He added that the collaboration complements traditional instruction by granting broader access to interactive educational content.
Infrastructure and Ongoing Monitoring
The state Education Department coordinates the involvement of the participating 31 schools, while MPOWER oversees the provision of essential information and communication technology infrastructure, including necessary devices and reliable internet connectivity. Furthermore, MPOWER maintains active oversight of the pilot program, assessing its implementation and periodically reviewing outcomes to gauge the feasibility of adopting digital and blended learning approaches across diverse school environments throughout the state.
