Women across Tamil Nadu are set to receive significant financial relief following a major policy announcement by the state government. Under the newly introduced Annapoorani Super Six scheme, the administration has committed to providing three free domestic cooking gas cylinders every year to eligible women beneficiaries.
Legislative Announcement by the Chief Minister
Chief Minister Vijay made the official announcement on the floor of the State Legislative Assembly under Rule 110. During the electoral campaigning, the initiative originally promised six free LPG cylinders, which is where the name Super Six originated. However, the latest official government update specifies that three LPG cylinders per year will be delivered to each qualifying family in this first phase.
Timeline and Rollout Schedule
The Annapoorani Super Six scheme is officially scheduled to roll out starting from the Pongal festival in 2027. Beneficiaries should note that this three-cylinder financial assistance is not operational immediately in August 2026. The government is expected to release comprehensive guidelines covering registration, verification procedures, eligibility criteria, and payment mechanisms ahead of the official launch date.
The physical cylinders will not be distributed directly in kind. Instead, the exact monetary cost of each LPG cylinder will be credited straight into the designated bank accounts of eligible women beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer.
Beneficiary Count and Financial Expenditure
This welfare rollout is projected to benefit approximately 1,30,16,104 women spread across the state of Tamil Nadu. Government estimates suggest that roughly 1.30 crore economically vulnerable households will reap the advantages of the program. Implementing this massive welfare measure will place an additional financial burden of around Rs. 4,000 crore on the state exchequer.
Eligibility Criteria and Income Limits
Because the initiative is specifically designed to support financially fragile and low-income households, strict eligibility criteria have been established. To qualify for the Annapoorani Super Six scheme, the total annual income of the applicant's family must not exceed Rs. 2 lakh.
Registration and Documentation Details
As of now, the state government has not yet published the complete official application process or documentation guidelines for the scheme. While official instructions are awaited prior to the Pongal 2027 rollout, applicants will likely need standard paperwork such as an Aadhaar card, Tamil Nadu residential proof, a valid ration card, active LPG connection details, and relevant income certificates. Residents are advised to monitor official government communications for the final instructions.
