Anyone with pressing bank business lined up for next week would do well to check this list first. Between June 22 and June 28, banks in various parts of the country will remain closed on four different days. While a couple of these holidays are national, others are restricted to specific states or cities, so the impact will vary depending on where you are.
June 22: Rath Yatra Brings Regional Branch Closures
The Rath Yatra festival, celebrated in honour of Lord Jagannath, falls on June 22. Grand processions are held across Odisha, Gujarat, and many parts of West Bengal on this occasion, and banks in these states will be closed for the day. Customers in other states are not affected and can use their branches as normal.
June 26: Muharram Holiday Hits 18-Plus Cities Nationwide
June 26 sees the widest set of closures for the week. Banks will remain shut in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bhopal, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Nagpur, Belapur, Jammu, Srinagar, Agartala, and Aizawl on account of Muharram/Ashura. People in or around these cities should aim to complete any branch-specific tasks by June 25 to avoid inconvenience.
June 27: Mandatory Fourth-Saturday Closure Under RBI Rules
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) requires all public and private sector banks across the country to remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. Since June 27 is the fourth Saturday of June, this closure applies uniformly to every bank in India, with no exceptions.
June 28: Regular Sunday Weekly Off
June 28 falls on a Sunday, making it the standard weekly holiday observed by all banks throughout the country. Like every Sunday, this applies nationwide without exception.
Online and Digital Banking Will Run Without Interruption
Branch closures do not affect the full range of digital banking services. Internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs, and digital payment platforms will all remain fully operational across these four days. Customers can transfer money, pay bills, check account balances, and use any other digital facility just as they normally would.
Complete Branch Tasks Before the Holidays Begin
Certain transactions still require a physical visit to a branch, such as depositing a cheque, getting a demand draft issued, or withdrawing cash over the counter. For any such task, the practical advice is to visit the branch before the holiday period starts. This will help you sidestep long queues and the stress of last-minute rushes.
