Festival preparations across the national capital are facing unexpected headwinds as local merchant communities express deep anxiety over large political gatherings. Shiv Sena spokesperson Krishna Hegde brought these commercial concerns to the forefront, questioning the timing of major agitation programmes called by opposition parties. He pointed out that holding mass political demonstrations right in the middle of crucial festive shopping windows disrupts retail footfall, logistics, and daily life across traditional trade hubs. Hegde also addressed remarks concerning Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the recent arrest of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan by the Enforcement Directorate, and the evolving electoral landscape in Punjab.
Festive Shoppers and Staggering Daily Trade Losses
Highlighting the economic fallout of recent political actions, Krishna Hegde stated that during the Dussehra period, agitations involving CJP, Congress, and other coalition partners resulted in daily business losses of approximately two thousand crore rupees for Delhi traders. He emphasized that sustained disruption not only threatens commercial solvency for small retailers but also strains the livelihoods of millions of families dependent on commercial supply chains across the capital.
During major festive cycles, citizens step out in large numbers to purchase seasonal essentials, gifts, and household goods. When political gatherings trigger security cordons, traffic diversions, or forced market closures, ordinary shoppers face severe hurdles while commercial operations come to a virtual standstill. Hegde noted that business groups had formally appealed to Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to postpone the scheduled November 1 rally, seeking relief so that lakhs of local enterprises could operate without disruption during peak customer traffic.
Azam Khan Custody and Enforcement Directorate Inquiry
Addressing legal developments involving senior Samajwadi Party politician Azam Khan, the Shiv Sena spokesperson touched upon Khan being taken into custody immediately after leaving prison. Hegde stated that the Enforcement Directorate will now question Azam Khan across multiple existing cases, which will establish the full truth of the financial and legal matters. He observed that Khan has already served prison sentences in the past, underscoring that statutory investigation processes will proceed in accordance with established law.
Electoral Dynamics and Substance Abuse Crisis in Punjab
Turning to forthcoming legislative assembly contests, Krishna Hegde described the governance environment in Punjab as deeply distressed. He argued that the electorate had previously handed a governing mandate to the Aam Aadmi Party, yet the administration failed to rein in corruption or stem the rampant proliferation of narcotics across towns and rural areas.
Hegde highlighted that substance abuse has grown into an acute systemic crisis in Punjab, severely damaging the prospects and health of young citizens. Pointing to the campaign strategy of the National Democratic Alliance, he identified Union Home Minister Amit Shah as a key campaigner who has emphasized that an NDA administration would dedicate its full institutional focus toward building a drug-free Punjab.
Potential Alliance Between BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal
On the organizational front in Punjab, Krishna Hegde shared significant observations regarding potential coalition realignment between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiromani Akali Dal. He indicated that an understanding between the two parties is virtually finalized, with formal parameters expected to be made public by Union Home Minister Amit Shah alongside senior national leaders in due course.
