When raw talent combines with perseverance, geographical limitations cease to matter. Originating from Nadol, a quiet settlement located in Rajasthan's Pali district, Vikalp Mehta has etched his name firmly into the comedy and entertainment landscape. His facial features, vocal resonance, and dynamic mannerisms closely mirror those of prominent film icon Akshay Kumar, providing him with a unique performing edge. Transforming a small-town upbringing into mainstream success on major performance platforms reflects years of steady grit and dedicated craftsmanship.
Classroom Mimicry and the Accidental Moniker
Vikalp completed his initial schooling within Rajasthan. During his early student years, he developed an effortless knack for imitating the speech and physical quirks of those around him. Relatives at gatherings, fellow classmates, and school educators frequently became the subject of his harmless impressions. At that stage, he did not even realize that this artistic craft carried the technical label of mimicry, viewing it simply as regular acting. Over time, acquaintances noticed his uncanny facial similarity to action star Akshay Kumar. His close peer group began addressing him as 'Akshay', an informal nickname that eventually pointed toward a future profession.
Choosing Between the Cricket Pitch and Stage Lights
Upon finishing standard 12, a defining career decision arrived. Two paths presented themselves: pursue professional cricket or commit entirely to the performing arts. A lack of sporting infrastructure and severe resource constraints made athletic aspirations extremely tough to sustain, prompting him to dedicate his energy to acting. His father, employed with the Life Insurance Corporation of India, gave sensible advice rather than outright refusal. The parental condition was straightforward: complete formal higher education first, after which he remained entirely free to venture into whatever trade he preferred. Around age 17 or 18, observing his growing performance polish, both family and close companions urged him to treat mimicry as a viable professional vocation.
Securing a Break Through an Ahmedabad Audition
Taking his first major artistic gamble, Vikalp appeared for an audition in Ahmedabad for Sony TV's well-known talent competition 'Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega' in 2009. The screening proved immensely fruitful, as the judges cleared him on his very first attempt. Soon after, he traveled to Yash Raj Studios to tape his segment before a large audience. The broadcast drew widespread praise from viewers and industry peers, serving as the official springboard for his commercial comedy journey.
Waiting at Mehboob Studio and Meeting His Screen Idol
Eager to establish permanent footing, he took a train journey from Pali directly to Mumbai in 2010. During the filming schedule of 'Patiala House', he spent an entire day waiting patiently outside Mehboob Studio to catch a glimpse of Akshay Kumar. The resulting encounter lasted barely sixty seconds, yet the veteran actor smiled warmly and posed alongside him for a photograph. Years later, his aspirations came full circle when he received the chance to share a stage alongside Akshay Kumar on 'Comedy Circus'. In current times, during tight production calendars, he is regularly entrusted with dubbing work for multiple promotional campaigns and commercial projects associated with the screen icon.
Over a Decade of Industry Goodwill and Mutual Respect
For more than ten continuous years, Vikalp has maintained his craft as a dedicated performer. While several public figures take offence at personal caricatures, Akshay Kumar has consistently displayed warmth, encouragement, and professional grace toward his work. The two individuals have crossed paths roughly ten to twelve times over the seasons. In each interaction, the screen veteran offered respect, evaluated his performance nuance with appreciation, and encouraged him to push his artistic boundaries.
A Standing Ovation and Whistles from Salman Khan
One of the most cherished milestones of his professional path unfolded during a recording of 'The Kapil Sharma Show', where superstar Salman Khan was seated as the prominent guest. Right as Vikalp commenced his routine, Salman whistled loudly from the audience to cheer him forward. Once the performance wrapped, the guest actor invited Vikalp onto the central floor to shower him with heartfelt praise. Program writers later remarked that receiving such uninhibited approval from Salman was an extraordinary honour. Vikalp regards that spontaneous endorsement as one of the greatest artistic gifts of his life.
A Diverse Body of Work Across Screens and Digital Media
Vikalp has maintained a continuous presence across notable television broadcasts, including 'The Kapil Sharma Show', 'India's Got Talent', 'Comedy Circus', 'Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega', and 'The Great Indian Family Drama'. Broadening his artistic portfolio, he appeared in cinematic and episodic productions such as 'Bhai Tera Star Hai' and 'Social Mandiya', while also creating a digital offering titled 'Comedy with Ek'. Emerging from a modest rural background to earn enduring recognition in Mumbai, his journey remains a compelling narrative for aspiring talent chasing distant ambitions.
