- Human Fatalities: Natural disasters resulted in 5,677 deaths in 2013-14, whereas that figure fell to 3,080 deaths in 2024-25.
- Livestock Casualties: Cattle deaths reached a peak of 4.55 lakh during 2006-07, dropping to 1.19 lakh in 2023-24.

Recommended priority measures include systematic riverbed dredging and desiltation, extensive afforestation across river catchment basins, climate-resilient housing construction, and flood-proof public infrastructure. At the local level, village-scale training programs are essential to build community self-reliance. Furthermore, expanding artificial intelligence (AI) and satellite-driven predictive analytics, alongside dedicated urban flood management initiatives, will help move India closer to its target of zero disaster casualties.
