A harrowing ordeal that forced a young resident of Beldanga in West Bengal's Murshidabad district to live inside a water body has concluded with his recovery and safe return home. Iqbal Hossain, who suffered from a debilitating and mysterious physical condition, spent months tormented by an unbearable, constant burning sensation throughout his body. With no medical relief at hand, cold water was the only means to calm the agony. The severity of the ailment reached a stage where he was forced to spend five to six consecutive days submerged in a local village pond, making the water his only refuge.
Severe condition forced days inside pond water
The mysterious disorder had severely disrupted Iqbal Hossain's everyday life, rendering normal routines impossible. Because of the intense, uncontrollable burning across his skin, he could neither lie on a bed nor sit comfortably on dry ground. Seeking escape from the heat, he remained inside the pond for days at a time, where his family had to bring him food and water directly while he stayed in the pond. His household faced severe financial constraints, leaving the family incapable of affording expensive clinical investigations or specialized tertiary healthcare in major metropolitan centres.
Intervention by Anant Ambani and deployment of medical specialists
Upon learning about the teenager's critical situation, Reliance Industries Executive Director Anant Ambani directed a team of medical experts to examine Iqbal. He ensured that Iqbal received comprehensive medical intervention and that arrangements were in place to escort him safely back to his home in Beldanga once he had recovered. Recognizing the financial hardship of the family, Anant Ambani intervened directly, undertaking complete responsibility for Iqbal's treatment expenses and logistical support.
Transfer to Mumbai and 35 days of intensive hospital care
Following the initial evaluation, Iqbal was transported from his home to Mumbai on August 15 and admitted to Reliance Hospital for dedicated care. A team of specialist doctors monitored his parameters closely throughout a rigorous 35-day treatment period. The specialized regimen yielded substantial clinical improvements. His unmanaged body weight was significantly brought down, and the agonizing burning sensations on his skin were virtually eliminated, marking a turnaround in his physical well-being.
Safe escort back to Beldanga and emotional family reunion
After completing his 35-day treatment cycle, members of the Reliance Jio team personally escorted a fully recovered Iqbal back to his residence in Beldanga on Sunday night. The return brought immediate relief to both his family and the local community. Stepping into his home, Iqbal embraced his mother with tears in his eyes and a smile on his face. Neighbours and local residents gathered at the house that very night to greet him and praised the initiative led by Anant Ambani.
His family members shared that not only has his body weight decreased considerably, but the severe skin itching and irritation have also subsided, allowing him to recover steadily. They expressed gratitude for the medical attention provided at Reliance Hospital, noting that the treatment has granted Iqbal a second chance at life.
