In an effort to elevate sports infrastructure across the state, the Tripura government has handed over a 30-acre plot of land at Sekerkote in West Tripura district to the Tripura Cricket Association. Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the development on Sunday during the annual prize distribution event organized by the cricket body at Rabindra Bhavan, noting that the administration is focused on offering comprehensive resources to emerging players.
Land Allocation and Strategic Support
Sharing details of the agreement, Chief Minister Manik Saha explained that the cricket association had originally intended to acquire private land through a commercial purchase. Intervening in the matter, the Chief Minister recommended submitting a formal application directly to the state administration for suitable land. Once the official paperwork was processed, the government sanctioned the 30-acre parcel at Sekerkote. When operational, the facility will serve as a premier training academy offering specialized coaching to young cricketers from across Tripura.
Talent Scouting at the Grassroots Level
Emphasizing the abundance of raw athletic ability within the region, Saha highlighted the necessity of early detection programs in rural areas. Acting on recommendations to identify prospects at the village level, the sports body has finalized the deployment of 16 talent spotters across eight administrative subdivisions. These scouts are tasked with visiting remote villages, monitoring local tournaments, and recommending standout young players for systematic coaching.
Weatherproof Grounds and Stadium Progress
To avoid disruptions caused by regional climate patterns, plans are also in place to build all-weather practice surfaces at two district headquarters, namely Kailashahar and Belonia. This upgrade will allow athletes to continue training without losing practice time during adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the Chief Minister stated that construction on the international cricket stadium located at Narsingarh in West Tripura district is moving toward completion, having previously faced a two-year operational halt.
