Outlining the nation's defense doctrine, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated on Sunday that India firmly believes in pursuing peace, but this should never be misconstrued as a willingness to compromise on national security. He emphasized that while the country values dialogue to resolve differences, the scope for conversation ends immediately when a neighboring nation continues to nurture and sponsor terrorism. If the neighboring country persists with state-sponsored terror, India retains full freedom to take every necessary countermeasure.
A Clear Stance on Terrorism and Diplomacy
Referencing the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh reiterated that nations utilizing terrorism as an instrument of state policy must receive an unequivocal message that terror can never serve as a strategic asset. India desires mutual cooperation and respectful global ties, but never at the expense of its core national interests. The country advocates for global stability without ever sacrificing its strategic autonomy.
Distinguishing Peace from Weakness
The Defense Minister underscored that India harbors no expansionist ambitions, does not wish to annex foreign territory, and holds no desire to intimidate any nation. The country prefers collective security and mutual prosperity over armed conflict. He made it clear that a wide gap exists between peace and weakness, asserting that while India wants peace, it will never yield on matters of security.
Self-Reliance and Industrial Growth in Defense
Highlighting the push toward an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Singh noted that defense institutions have undergone a massive transformation. The DRDO now functions as a national innovation hub connecting industries, academic institutions, startups, and scientists rather than operating merely as a research agency. The Ministry of Defense has approved procurement exceeding 2400 crore rupees from startups and micro, small, and medium enterprises, alongside sanctioning projects worth over 1500 crore rupees for advanced technology development.
Youth Innovation and Defense Corridors
India's youth are currently spearheading advancements in AI, unmanned aerial vehicles, robotics, quantum technologies, and cyber security solutions. Defense industrial corridors established in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have attracted approximately 70,000 crore rupees in investment proposals, with roughly 10,000 crore rupees already realized. Indian defense goods currently reach over 100 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. Furthermore, initiatives like the National Critical Minerals Mission have been launched to reduce import dependencies in critical minerals and semiconductor supply chains.
Inclusive Growth and Collective Responsibility
India's global rise aims not at undermining other nations or disrupting existing systems, but rather at fostering inclusive and sustainable development. Addressing domestic security, Singh remarked that safeguarding the nation is not solely the responsibility of soldiers stationed at borders, but a collective duty for every citizen. Society must remain united above lines of religion, caste, language, or region, always prioritizing national interest above narrow personal gains. He reaffirmed India's unwavering commitment to standing alongside Global South nations during times of need.
