The administration in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district has enforced a strict ban on the use of private items and equipment inside the revered Maa Vindhyavasini Dham. Under the new directive, no temple priest or member of the Panda community will be permitted to independently install private articles within the corridor area. This decision comes in the wake of a physical altercation between two priests at the shrine, a video of which widely circulated across social media platforms. When authorities investigated the viral footage, it was revealed that the video of the incident had been captured and broadcast through a privately installed camera. Following a thorough inquiry into the matter, a high-level meeting was convened between the Vindhy Panda Panchayat and the district administration. Consequently, all private cameras have been dismantled and removed from the premises, and authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to set up unauthorized private equipment in the future.
Tightened Security and Oversight Measures
Local authorities remain highly vigilant regarding the security arrangements at Maa Vindhyavasini Dham. To bolster safety protocols across the temple complex, advanced AI cameras have been installed, supported by a dedicated deployment of over 175 police personnel working in rotating shifts. However, after the construction of the new corridor, five private cameras were surreptitiously set up within the complex without the knowledge or awareness of the district administration. These private devices were actively monitoring activities within the shrine area. Although approximately three years have passed since the completion of the corridor, and dignitaries ranging from the Chief Minister to the Home Minister have visited the holy site, these unauthorized cameras managed to go completely unnoticed. The arrangement only came to light when an internal clash erupted inside the corridor premises, prompting a formal investigation. Reacting swiftly to the security lapse, the administration ordered the immediate removal of all private cameras.
Consensus Reached Between Administration and Priests
To address the security loophole, a formal meeting was held between the district administration and the Vindhy Panda Panchayat, culminating in the firm resolution that no private items will be allowed inside the temple or corridor complex. Elaborating on the outcome, City Magistrate Avinash Kumar stated that the use of any private objects within the corridor zone is strictly prohibited following the consensus reached during the meeting. He warned that any individual found violating this directive will face severe administrative consequences. Meanwhile, Vindhy Panda Panchayat President Pt. Pankaj Dwivedi noted that all priests and community members have been formally instructed against placing private articles inside the sacred precinct. He confirmed that all previously installed private materials have been successfully cleared out. Both the administration and the Panda Panchayat have reached a mutual understanding to ensure that such security oversights do not repeat themselves in the future.
