A sudden and heartbreaking incident unfolded at the famed Swargadwar cremation ground in Puri, Odisha, when a performing artist collapsed and died while attending a funeral procession. The deceased has been identified as Prabhat Sahoo, a traditional sankirtan artist who had traveled to Swargadwar alongside fellow musicians to participate in the last rites of a local resident.

According to details surrounding the incident, Basanta Kumar Das, a resident of Gajapati Nagar, had passed away. His family members and relatives brought his mortal remains to Puri's Swargadwar to perform the final rites. As per prevalent custom, a devotional sankirtan troupe accompanied the funeral procession. Throughout the journey to the cremation site, members of the group sang religious hymns and traditional songs. Prabhat Sahoo was actively participating in the chanting and musical renditions alongside his fellow troupe members throughout the walk.
Sudden Collapse in Waiting Area and Hospital Pronouncement
Upon arriving at the Swargadwar premises, Prabhat Sahoo took a seat inside the venue's waiting area while the family arranged the initial procedures for cremation. Moments later, he suddenly lost consciousness and slumped to the floor. Bystanders and fellow performers immediately rushed to his assistance and arranged to transport him to the Puri Medical College and Hospital for urgent medical care. However, upon arrival, examining doctors pronounced Prabhat Sahoo dead. The news created profound shock among people gathered at the ground, where a family had gathered to say goodbye to one loved one only to witness another life end so unexpectedly.

Prabhat Sahoo had joined the procession purely to offer devotional music for someone else's final journey, making his sudden demise all the more devastating for his colleagues and relatives.
